Michael Mann, the talented filmmaker behind ‘Heat‘ and ‘Collateral’ is getting closer to starting production on his passion project, Ferrari.
It’s being reported this week that Adam Driver, Penelope Cruz and Shailene Woodley have signed on to star in the movie. Driver will be replacing Hugh Jackman, who was originally set to star.
The movie, which Mann has been working on for two decades, is set during the summer of 1957. Ex-racecar driver, Ferrari, is in crisis. Bankruptcy stalks the company he and his wife, Laura, built from nothing ten years earlier. Their tempestuous marriage struggles with the mourning for one son and the acknowledgement of another. He decides to counter his losses by rolling the dice on one race – 1,000 miles across Italy, the iconic Mille Miglia.
Mann has been trying to get this movie made for years, and it’s been close a few times before, but never this close.
Casting appears to be locked right now, which is great news. Mann will direct from a script by Troy Kennedy Martin.
