Before the ‘Sonic the Hedgehog‘ film was released, it looked like it was going to be a massive failure. When the first images of ‘Sonic’ were released, the internet went in hard on his design.
But to the studio’s credit, they listened to the complaints and fixed Sonic’s image before releasing the film. This move won the audience over and the film opened number one at the box office.
It made over $300 million at the global box office, which is a huge success for a video game adaptation. It also received respectable reviews from critics.
What does all that mean? SEQUEL!
Paramount Pictures and Sega Sammy confirmed on Thursday that they have commenced development on a sequel to the live-action family comedy. The sequel would reteam the filmmakers, with Jeff Fowler directing, and Pat Casey and Josh Miller writing the script.
Variety notes that it’s still in the early development stage, so decisions on casting and a production start date have not been announced.
We will keep you posted.
