When the ‘Paranormal Activity‘ horror franchise was launched in 2007, no one knew just how successful it was going to be. The marketing was outstanding for the film, but still, no one thought it would gross over $190 million. Remember, the film was made for just $15,000. They made nearly $200 million on a $15,000 investment.
The second film in the series was released in 2010 and made $177 million on just a $3 million budget. Since then, four other films in the Paranormal Activity universe have been released, and in total the franchise has made over $400 million at the box office.
So you can understand why they want to continue. Paramount Pictures and Blumhouse are joining together to create a seventh Paranormal Activity movie.
Paramount chief Jim Gianopulos announced the untitled project Wednesday during the studio’s CineEurope presentation in Barcelona. Plot details are also under wraps.
It’ll be interesting to see what they do with the franchise now. The sixth installment made just $78 million at the box office. It is the poorest performing film in the series, but still it was made on a low budget, so it was still profitable.
We’ll see if they can put a new spin on this tired franchise.
